SVCOA Announces Funding Opportunities for Evidence-Based Community Wellness Initiatives

Vermont Business Magazine The Southwest Vermont Council on Aging announced today that it will be accepting applications from community organizations in Bennington and Rutland counties for grants available to support the delivery of health promotion and prevention programs. evidence-based illnesses to older Vermonters and caregivers in the SVCOA service area.

“Research has shown us that being active and staying socially connected is essential to our overall health and quality of life, which is why we are so pleased to be able to extend these evidence-based funding opportunities to our community. “said Courtney Anderson, Director of Nutrition, Wellness and Community Services at SVCOA.

Evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention grants may be awarded to support non-profit community service providers or for-profit organizations that meet the grant criteria. The SVCOA provides grants to organizations that are located or directly serve seniors and caregivers in our service area, including Bennington and Rutland counties. SVCOA grants provide limited financial support to communities, organizations, partners and caregivers to help SVCOA build capacity and develop a support network for older adults and family caregivers.

Additionally, SVCOA operates under the direction of the Senior Citizens of America Act (“OAA”) which delineates and regulates the scope of work of Vermont’s regional agencies on aging. The OAA requires that all services and supports target seniors with the greatest economic and social needs, especially those who are:

institutional investment risk

low-income minority people

· limited proficiency in English

residing in rural areas
