Manchin Announces Funding for Snowshoes Resort Community District Economic Development Study

Washington, (DC) – United States Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced $80,000 from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) for the Snowshoe Resort Community District in West Virginia to conduct a feasibility study to assess the labor market available for the district. The funding is part of EDA’s Coal Community Assistance (ACC) program, which supports business development, economic growth and job creation by investing in coal communities across the country.

“EDA continues to be a strong partner for West Virginia through its support of economic development projects throughout the state. Today’s announcement is great news for the Snowshoe Resort Community District and its ongoing efforts to further develop sustainable tourism growth,” said Senator Manchin. “Snowshoe is home to one of the best ski resorts on the East Coast, and this investment is a step in the right direction to boost our growing industries. outdoor recreation and tourism in Pocahontas County and the rest of the state. I look forward to seeing the results of this study for the Snowshoe community and all of Mountain State.

The study will examine the ability of the Snowshoe Resort Community District to drive business growth, explore what is needed to foster business development, attract new business, and provide opportunities for ongoing employment. Once completed, the project will help support continued employment, create new opportunities and attract private investment to a region that has been affected by the decline of the coal industry.
