Eight community groups in Hamilton benefited from council funding

South Lanarkshire Council has awarded more than £3,000 between eight groups in Hamilton.

Play Program Grants and Community Grants for groups across the Hamilton area were awarded by councilors yesterday at the Hamilton Area Committee meeting.

Two play program grants have been awarded, and the council’s community grant program includes funding for play programs that operate during the summer, October and Easter school holidays.

Childcare in the Community, which is based in Hamilton, received £600 and Blameless, also in Hamilton, received £600.

Six community grants were also awarded by the council, Hillhouse Link Tenants’ and Residents’ Association in Hamilton received £900 for an environmental project, and Quarter in Bloom received £300 for an environmental project.

Larkhall’s Strutherhill Lunch and Social Club received £350 for an outing and Larkhall’s 1st Boys’ Brigade received £350 for entry fees, equipment and materials.

The Earnock Residents’ Association in Hamilton received £250 for administration and publicity costs and the Hamilton Baths Amateur Swimming Club received £200 funding for an outing.

The council operates a community grants program to support local incorporated community groups and voluntary organizations.

The main objectives of the Community Grants Program are to fund activities and projects that benefit the community and involve community members to enjoy educational, recreational, leisure and other community activities or to improve the local environment .

The total Community Grants allocation for the Hamilton Region for 2022-2023 is £25,750. The remaining balance is now £22,350 after the Game Program Grants and Community Grants were awarded.

All of the chairmen of South Lanarkshire’s four regional committees (Hamilton, Cambuslang and Rutherglen, East Kilbride and Clydesdale) will meet on Monday to review current funding allocation protocols.
