Dusty Robotics Closes $45M Series B Funding

  • Dusty Robotics recently announced that it has raised $45 million in Series B funding. Those are the details.

Dusty Robotics – a provider of robotic solutions for the construction industry – announced that it has closed a Series B round of $45 million. The funding round was led by Scale Venture Partners and joined by returning investors Baseline Ventures, Canaan Partners, Root Ventures, NextGen Venture Partners and Cantos.

The company plans to use these funds to grow its team, expand its product offerings, and accelerate manufacturing with the goal of rolling out Dusty products to every construction site in the United States.

Dusty’s FieldPrinter solution eliminates one of the most common sources of conflict on construction projects: an incorrect layout drawn by hand using a chalk drawing process invented 5,000 years ago. years by the first Egyptians. And the patented FieldPrinter solution automates the process of bringing digital floor plans to construction sites by printing them in full size on the ground through a combination of hardware, software and services.

This end-to-end solution ensures that all trades build from the same set of plans, eliminating errors, speeding conflict resolution, and dramatically reducing construction cost and time.

Recent advancements in FieldPrinter technology have made the solution easy to adopt by skilled construction professionals. And the FieldPrinter 1.0 release marks the first step towards a production system ready for widespread use. New features in version 1.0 include:

– Print around shorelines or on congested sites with automatic obstacle detection and avoidance

– QR code printing, allowing instant access to construction documents

– Fast and efficient printing, including single pass printing of intersection points

– Real-time progress tracking

These features are the first step towards a larger vision of getting the right information to the right people at the right time: accelerating collaboration and ensuring project success.

FieldPrinter is known as the first solution of its kind to be widely adopted. Dozens of contractors use the FieldPrinter solution on job sites across the United States, including some of the biggest names in construction: DPR, Swinerton, PARIC, Performance Contracting Inc. and Southland Industries. And in the first quarter of 2022 alone, Dusty’s printers laid out more than 25 million square feet of building floors, enough to build the equivalent of 25 football stadiums or 31,000 new apartments.

“For us, the main ingredients are Dusty’s layout accuracy and speed. We are also excited about the Dusty print layout for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades to allow for better coordination. Thanks to Dusty, we can start installing our work right away without worrying about conflicts. »

– Emmy Guthrie, preconstruction manager at Performance Contracting

“Dusty is one of the few robotics startups to have identified an acute problem in a traditional industry and brought a product to market in a remarkably short time. We are excited about Dusty’s potential to modernize the construction industry and believe that this is the right team to do it.We are optimistic about Dusty’s bright future and excited to fuel their growth.

– Alex Niehenke, partner at Scale Venture Partners

“Construction is endemic with manual workflows – processes where a phone call or email has to be sent in order to move the project forward – or work that has to be done with precision, via manual labor. With so little automation in the industry, it’s no wonder that 85% of projects complete beyond budget, directly contributing to the housing crisis. Our robotic solutions automate manual construction workflows, increasing productivity across the industry while creating better working conditions for skilled craftsmen.

“Dusty is accelerating the digitization of the construction industry. By bringing people and information together at the right time, we transform construction into a digital manufacturing process. Automation is the only way to solve our housing shortage and keep rising construction costs under control. »

– Tessa Lau, Founder and CEO of Dusty

“We have invested heavily in BIM for our projects, and Dusty ensures that all trades rely on coordinated models for a project. We’ve used Dusty’s solution on sixteen projects across the United States, allowing our foremen to focus on being the best craftsmen instead of doing the tedious manual work of layout. We are customizing these printers to be available at our jobsites nationwide.

– Henning Roedel, Head of Robotics, DPR Construction
